Fashion Fools?

20140402-204659.jpg
If you’re at all tuned-in to the fashion blogosphere, you probably witnessed Cupcakes and Cashmere’s April fool’s tease: The Statement Anklet. While the 4/1 post date was a pretty obvious indication that we were being tricked, I have to admit that I’m actually a little bit upset that this “trend” is a hoax! After all…those ubiquitous statement necklaces of yesteryear HAVE been taking up more space in your jewelry box than on your neck as of late, no? Plus, nothing jazzes up a bare leg like some jewels, right? 😉 K, maybe not, but I’m all about a little ankle icing every now and then. I mean THESE?! Kind of fabulous. Honestly, if this trend catches on, I won’t hate it.
Were you a victim of any April Fools shenanigans yesterday? Any similarly awful-but amazing styles you secretly love?

Hot or Not: Candy Couture

20140315-192447.jpgFrom Charlotte Olympia to Swatch, candy gone couture seems to have become fashion’s latest accessory trend. Even Chanel has taken part–Lagerfeld himself sent logo-emblazoned candy-inspired creations pictured above down his runway last week! Though those double-Cs won’t be available until August, the aforementioned offering from Charlotte Olympia–a pair of $945 pastel pumps complete with a “candy bracelet-inspired anklet”–are up for grabs right now. Love the look, but aren’t willing to drop nearly $1000 on an ultra-trendy item? Swatch’s “Caramellisima” watch clocks in (ha) at $60 and provides massive (adorable) style mileage. At an even CHEAPER price point, Perpetual Kid keeps it classic with this $6 faux candy necklace choker. Love!
What do you think of the candy couture trend? Is this a look you like? Something you’d wear? Hot or Not?!

Know Your Shoes!

By now, you’ve probably heard that silly quote that goes something like, “Cinderella is proof that a pair of shoes can change your life,” and while I think that particular sentiment may be a bit extreme, there is something to be said for knowing your shoes. Increasing your personal style savvy is always a plus, right? That’s why I’m obsessing over this clever little chart! Do you know the intricacies of t-straps, slingbacks, ankle straps, and Mary Janes? Can you tell the difference between a wedge and a platform? Down with D’Orsay? With this illustration, you’re golden! Think of it as an encyclopedia of footwear 😉

Want It Wednesday: Madison 88 Floral Print Circle Scarf

Who doesn't love a good infinity scarf?!

Who doesn’t love a good infinity scarf?! Image Credit.

Snood. Infinity scarf. Circle scarf. Whatever you call it, I’m completely obsessed with it. Why? I’m not exactly sure! It’s not like tying a scarf is particularly challenging, but there’s something strangely comforting about simply not needing to put in the effort. Double knot? Loop? Double loop? Twist? Pretzel? Turtle neck? Euro knot? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.  With a circle scarf, the direction and style has already been pre-decided. You just pop it on, scrunch it up, and go.

The particular circle scarf I’m pining over is for sale right now on ShopMieux.com! It’s a wool and acrylic number by Madison 88 that originally retailed for $49. Other sites have it on sale online for $29. Mieux & Mieux is selling it for $11! Aside from the totally alluring price tag and my soft spot for circular neckwear, I’m also loving the color, print, and pattern of this piece. For the most part (save for a good cheetah print), I gravitate towards neutral accessories, so the washed-out, vintage hues of this scarf are instantly appealing. And, even though the colors are toned down, the piece still makes an impact by mixing two bold–and perennially popular–prints: dots and florals. What results is the perfect combination of trendy and timeless…The ultimate infinity scarf.

Need it in your life? Shop the Madison 88 Floral Print Circle Scarf here, at Mieux & Mieux!

How do you feel about snoods/circle/infinity scarves? What are YOU wanting this Wednesday?

Camouflage: Hot, Not, & How To Rock It.

Glamouflage. Image Credit.

Glamouflage. Image Credit.

Personally, when I think of camouflage, I think of sixth grade, army pants, and the Destiny’s Child video for Survivor. Though camo isn’t necessarily a huge trend, it does have sticking power. From “hunter-chic” to “hiding in plain site”, the tricky print has been popping up all over as of late–on hats, in street style photos, over pants, in varying hues. The newest iteration of the camo crop mixes the traditionally tough pattern with a decidedly more feminine aesthetic–think,  silk scarves and shirts, floaty dresses, fitted crops, and in muted neutral tones….Though of course, classic camo combat jackets always seem to retain their cool factor. Just because a particular print is prevalent, however, doesn’t mean that it’s not polarizing–camo may have lovers, but it isn’t everyone’s favorite print.  If you’re on the fence, (but obviously open to experimenting) here are three easy ways to work a little camouflage into your wardrobe.

How To Wear (& Rock!) Camouflage

  1. Go classic. When it comes to styles you find questionable, it’s almost always best to keep things simple. Simply put, DON’T MIX TRENDS! Ditch camo-covered skinny jeans and opt instead for the aforementioned army jacket. The result: increased wearability and style longevity.
  2. Use it as an accent. One of the easiest ways to wear even the scariest trends is to use it extra sparingly. Let camo, for example, make a cameo via shoes, a scarf, or your phone case. Little commitment, but a little extra interest and great style payoff.
  3. Make everything else ultra-feminine. I’m a sucker for dichotomy, so naturally, one of my favorite ways to see the camo trend is when it takes a girly twist.  A camo jacket + slip dress + the perfect pair of pointy-toe heels = the ultimate model-off-duty application of camouflage. Pair your tough camo pieces with lots of jewelry, pretty skirts and dresses, and impeccable hair and makeup. Bonus pro tip: Don’t be afraid to mix patterns! Camo looks especially great with leopard and geometric prints.

What’s your take on the camo trend? Is it HOT or NOT?

Saturday Night Style Inspiration: Casual Luxury With Kerry Washington

Image via Pinterest.

All hail Kerry Washington! Image via Pinterest.

Leave it to Olivia Pope Kerry Washington to class-up our lazy-girl fall basics and make them Saturday-night chic! A glamourous take on the sweatshirt + leggings + boots combo of our co-ed days, Kerry’s use of unexpected textures , fancier footwear, and sultry makeup take this look to the next level. The elements are practically the same: leggings + boots + sweater – but the look? SO much better. The obvious standout, must-buy piece in this outfit are the sequined legging, which, believe it or not, are actually a lot more versatile than you might think. Here, they provide your look with a glamourous foundation with minimal effort. Next on the list? The sweater. How does the sweater in the new formula differ from your go-to? Simply put, it offers more. Look for a piece with some sort of unexpected detail–like fun elbow patches or pannels, uncommon tailoring–think, an especially oversized, verging on cape-like cut–or something fashioned in an ultra-luxe textile–hello, cashmere! Last on your list is a pair of kickass ankle boots, which, aside from being super on-trend this season, break up your look and affords more edge than a pair of equestrian boots, but more comfort than your classic Saturday night stilettos. Now all that’s left is your beauty game: opt for a smokey eye,  a creamy neutral lip, and PILE on the mascara. Result: Irresistible. Want the look? Check out our buyables for pieces to splurge on below.

Cute & Cozy: Staying Warm & Looking Hot (Enough)

Cute & cozy personified. Image via Pinterest.

Cute & cozy personified. Image via Pinterest.

To quote one Hannah Horvath, it’s Wednesday night, baby, and I’m alive!

LOL jk, that’s a lie–it’s Wednesday afternoon and I’m holed up in my apartment in a nest of blankets, streaming Netflix, and feeling cozy. Last night marked the first official snowfall in Minnesota. All I can think about is layering up, sipping hot chocolates, perusing faux fur outerwear, wrapping up in chunky knits, and committing full-on carbicide. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Seriously though–winter dressing can be kiiind of a pain. Between the elastic waist pants (or babydoll dresses…) of Thanksgiving to the sequin-encrusted ensembles of New Years Eve, however, there is, thankfully, some wiggle room for looks that are comfortable, warm, and stylish. Peep our list below where we’ve unearthed expert resources for staying warm and looking hot (enough)!

Mieux & Mieux Must Have: The Statement Ring

Statement rings. It’s love. Image via Pinterest.

I am–and have always been–a ring girl. My jewelry piece of choice, I’ve rocked statement rings forever. Habitually. Far before I ever had a rock on my finger. While tasteful “right hand rings”, midi rings, and thumb rings are awesome additions to any woman’s jewelry wardrobe, the oft-overlooked essential for any accessory lover is definitely the statement ring. Not only do they provide the perfect focal point for just about any outfit, but a good one also functions as a self defense device!…or at the very least, a quality man repeller 😉 While we don’t recommend taking the editorial route and adorning each of your fingers with massive cocktail rings, ONE is a must. Have one yet? If not, here are a few great places to start your search!

Outfit Inspiration: Fall Fashion Perfected

Oh hey, poster child for fall fashion. Let's talk. Image via Pinterest.

Oh hey, poster child for fall fashion. Let’s talk. Image via Pinterest.

As we’ve touched on previously, fall is arguably the best season for fashion. Crisp air and cool mornings allow for scarves, boots, and jackets, all casually layered into the perfect effortless-chic outfit. Another reason to love fall? Bolds return. From lipstick to handbags, deep jewel tones have returned. It’s love. This particular outfit (image courtesy of Pinterest, naturally,) has all of the trappings of the ultimate autumn look. Leather. Gold. Wool. Boots. Buckles. The styling is perfection and each particular piece of apparel is spot-on–key for creating a style-conscious, but not overly-trendy look. Also, sidebar, can we just take a second to talk about how glorious this particular angle is for fashion selfies?! I’m a little obsessed.

Get The Look!

There’s a ton of inspiration to be found within this outfit, so no worries if you’ve suddenly found yourself craving similar pieces. We’ve got you covered. Start things off with the  Arzt double-strap ankle boots from Aldo, add a classic quilted bag like this stunner by Rebecca Minkoff, squeeze into a black and cream skirt–the ‘Daphne‘ from Reiss is an excellent option–and top things off with your very own belted oxblood hat. Done and done. Fall fashion perfected.

What do you think of this look, Mieuxs? Would you wear something similar? What are your fall wardrobe essentials?

Hot Or Not: Over-The-Knee Boots

As far as footwear trends are concerned, over-the-knee boots aren’t exactly the new kids on the block. Like any statement-making shoe, however, they do skew a bit towards questionable at times. OTK lovers praise the boots for their ability to instantly sex-ify every outfit–a definite perk for daring dressers. Naysayers of the style, however, question OTK’s wearability, comfort, and general attractiveness. In short, people are torn! Naturally we have to weigh in 😉 Peep these style snaps before making the final call!

Though thigh-high boots definitely have the ability to be super sexy–some would say too sexy–the style doesn’t have to be skanky in the least! Tips for toning it down? First and foremost, consider the rest of your outfit! I love a pair of tall boots paired with a feminine, as seen above. If everything else is more demure or relaxed, OTK boots will work to add some fun dichotomy and spice to your look. If all else fails, simply select a boot sans stilettos – flats or a chunky heel work well to temper that inherent sex appeal.

Stylish, sophisticated, and sexy: is this the perfect outfit?! The addition of wedge-heeled OTK boots in this jewel-toned fall look really take this ensemble to the next level. Even better? They’re super flattering. While I’m not sure of the exact height of the girl pictured, dusters, large scarves, and thigh highs can be difficult pieces to pull off if you’re under 5’10, and she has combined all of them into one look! But it works! The duster sweater shortens, the boots lengthen, and with the scarf’s added volume, the visual impact of the look isn’t just straight up and down. It’s an unexpected combination that totally works.

A bohemian twist on over-the-knee boots?! Yepper! And, Vanessa Hudgens isn’t the only celebrity who loves a good pair of OTKs–Rihanna, Kate Moss, and the entire Kardashian clan are all fans of the trend, and each wear them in very distinct, individual ways. Love a trend that you can easily make your own.

So, are over-the-knee boots HOT or NOT?

The choice is yours, Mieuxs! Yes or no? Would you wear over-the-knee boots?
