E! News reported on Monday that Beyoncé and Andre 3000 are teaming up for a track on the soundtrack of the upcoming The Great Gatsby. The song? A cover of Amy Winehouse hit “Back to Black”. According to a source from Interscope Records, Bey and Andre’s collaboration is “a very different take on ‘Back to Black.’”
I’m all about Queen Bey–who isn’t these days?!–and I’m sure this song is going to be HOT, but I’m not so sure how I feel about her covering Amy’s jams. I don’t know…It just seems too soon! Amy Winehouse may have been the definition of a hot mess back in the day, but no one can deny that her voice was on-point. Winehouse was talented! When she was actually singing and not talking about her “Blake incarcerated” Amy’s strength, style, and vocal quality were practically unmatched by any other mainstream artist of her time. Beyoncé is amazing, but why can’t she do an original piece for the Gatsby soundtrack, especially because Jay is penning the film’s score? I’m torn, guys.
What do you think about Beyoncé and Andre 3000 remaking Back to Black? Is it too soon? What about Jay-Z producing the score? And regardless…How excited are you all to see this movie?!?
