Zenon: Fashion of the 21st Century

dashboardCetus lepedus! Who knew that Zenon, girl of the 21st century was actually a self-fulfilling prophecy for fashion as we know it today? With her spandex tights and fabulo holographic skirt, she would be thrilled to know that most of her iridescent style would be readily available on websites such as Urban Outfitters and Nastygal.

stella-mccartney-holographic-faux-leather-iphone-4-sleeveSpring 2013 vamped on the ramp with lunarious clothing and accessories. Designers such as Nanette Lepore, Jeffery Campbell, Proenza Schouler, and Jonathan Saunders all had a macro moment on the runway with the holographic trend. Pieces such as pants, tops, shorts, skirts, shoes and bags were all shiny to the max and paired with very classic pieces for an interesting juxtaposition.

Holographic clutches, bags, and oxford shoes are available at your nearest Urban Outfitters and H&M. On a more smaller scale, try holographic nails from Chanel or China Glaze!

The 90s girl in me is squealing with joy over the holographic trend since Zenon was right up there with holographic Pokemon cards and shiny Lisa Frank stickers. We’ve seen the past give their ideas as to what futuristic clothing looks like, so is this the first step in that direction? In another 50 years are we going to be sporting space suits? I must be honest though, it’s quite a tricky trend because it can look a little cheap or immature when done wrong. I probably wouldn’t invest too much either since I’m not sure this trend is going to last. This one is on the table ladies…super stellar, or hideous major?
