Looks from Last Night: My Top 5 Emmy Faves

Here’s an unsurprising confession: I skipped the Emmy Awards, but totally caught the highlights from the red carpet. Priorities, guys! It’s fine though, because while apparently the show was super boring, the fashion–for the most part–was stimulating, chic, and somewhat unexpected. There were turtle necks, floral prints galore, cut outs, and untraditional designs–all of the makings for ideal style commentary. Here are my top 5 looks from last night!

1. Rose Byrne.

Normally an icy brunette, now blonde Rose Byrne is almost unrecognizable upon an Emmy first glance! The combination of her freshly-sunkissed locks and her dark blush Calvin Klein dress, however, definitely warranted a second look because Byrne was completely stunning last night! Not only is she rocking the crop top look, but extra-fitted silhouette of the dress complimented her tiny shape perfectly. Speaking of perfect, I also love how Rose balanced her high neckline with minimal shoulder coverage (plus that peek of tummy!) for the perfect amount of sex appeal.

2. Julianne Hough.

The sheer skirt trend has officially hit the red carpet, and Julianne Hough is doing it big. Subtle seafoam combined with sparkles, an off-the-shoulder neckline, and layers of draping fabric in her Jenny Packham number, easily stealing the spotlight from her Emmy-nominated brother Derek. While this isn’t the type of dress I would expect to see on Hough, (maybe on Beyoncé!) or at the Emmys (maybe the Grammys!), I love that Julianne took a risk…and her body looked absolutely amazing.

3. Lena Dunham.

Lena’s sister supposedly described her Emmy ensemble as “like the Delia’s catalogue made a red carpet dress”, which is so totally spot-on that I almost don’t want to say anything else about her look. Almost. I’ll be honest: If this dress were on anyone other than Lena Dunham, I would probably hate it. But it’s just SO Lena, right?! The teal…the all-over random floral print…It just works on her. And it’s Prada!! Though I wish the waist were a bit more dropped, (and that she had done something entirely different with her hair and makeup…) this fun and quirky frock is quite flattering on Lena’s frame. Dressing for your body type? Always a do.

4. Taylor Schilling.

Dandelion killed it last night! The Orange Is the New Black rocked a custom all white Thakoon numberwith a slit up to here, a peek of side-boob, back detail strap, and stunning pair of golden sandals. I knew our Piper was pretty, but I didn’t know she had this sexy side! Thakoon totally brought that out in her.

5. Claire Danes.

Claire’s deep-v Armani Prive dress, at least to me, looks like a more refined, elegant, adult version of Lena’s Prada gown above! The subtle, next-to-nude coloring made Danes glow from within! What takes this look to the next level for me is the details. I’m in love with the lace overlay, draping chiffon, and subtly sequined bust. Such a princess dress–perfect for Emmy royalty!
