Thirsty Thursday: Purple Rain

20140410-220313.jpg
We’ve talked pink drinks at length in this column, but purple drinks are uncharted territory! Being a Minnesota girl, however, as soon as I spotted this violet cocktail on Pinterest, I knew I had to share it with you all. After all, it’s named after a Prince song! Prince! We love Prince. And on the weekends, some of us love cocktails. This is the best of both worlds. Here’s how it’s done!
Purple Rain
1 1/4oz blue curaçao
1 1/4oz vodka
2oz cranberry juice
2oz pineapple juice
1/4oz lime juice
Shake all ingredients & pour over ice, or blend with ice for a frozen drink. Enjoy!
Drink up, Mieuxs! ❤

Thirsty Thursday: Classic Mimosas

This Thirsty Thursday, we’re raising our glasses to a classic: The Mimosa! Have you guys ever stopped to truly look at a mimosa? I spent a few (k, 20) minutes perusing the tag on Tumblr and came to the conclusion that the mimosa may be the best libation ever. They’re like a gulp of sunshine, champagne, and happiness. And that glass? So stylish. They’re also super simple to make–simply go halfsies on champagne and orange juice. Of course, recipes can vary a bit depending on your drinking companions 😉

Cheers, darling!

Thirsty Thursday: Chocolate Cupcake Cocktail

Cake cake cake.

Be honest, guys–does looking at this chocolate cupcake cocktail not make you totally salivate? OMG. Frosting. Sprinkles. Chocolate syrup?! Yes, yes, and yes. Dying. The Chocolate Cupcake Cocktail comes courtesy of Java Cupcake (and Pinterest, naturally!) and is apparently a strong, sippy-status drink. It contains whipped cream vodka, amaretto, and chocolate cream liquor to create that cupcake-esque flavor you crave. Click over to Java Cupcake for all of the ingredients and and full instructions! If you’re feeling extra indulgent, I hear there’s nothing like chasing a cocktail with a cupcake 😉 Bring on the funfetti!

Thirsty Thursday: Sick Day Drinks

Sick day necessities. Image Credit.

As I mentioned on Monday, I’m sick. I actually can’t remember the last time I was legitimately sick, like, I want to stay in bed all day, don’t want to get out and do anything, sore-throat, achey, no appetite sick, like I am right now. It’s the Polar Vortex. I decided. Anyway, one of the ways I like to deal with illness (and honestly, just life in general) is with potions. Potions?! Yeah, because by “potions”, I more accurately mean “home remedies” and “supplements”. Never underestimate the power of a HOT drink when you have a cold, flu, or sinus infection. It will provide almost instant relief, I swear. In that vein, here are two of the drinks I’m currently concocting in an attempt to chase my cold away.

goop Feel Food NY ‘Cold Buster’

The one upside of being sick: having a husband who will make late-night Whole Foods trips to pick up bee pollen, fresh ginger, and organic cinnamon I've been using to make this drink. Image via Pinterest.

A personal bright spot of being sick: having a husband who will make late-night Whole Foods trips to pick up bee pollen, fresh ginger, and organic cinnamon I’ve been using to make this drink. Image via Pinterest.

Via goop: Combine  juice of half a lemon, 1 teaspoon bee pollen, 1 heaping tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon pressed ginger, small pinch cayenne powder, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon powder into 8 ounces of hot water. Sip & enjoy.

I’ve been drinking this particular potion 2x a day for the last two days and it always makes me feel warm, happy, and (though admittedly shorter-lived than I would like,) MUCH better. It’s also helped me to discover that I’m obsessed with bee pollen–definitely try this one if you’re feeling yucky. It’s delicious!

ACV Shots

Via Pinterest: In a shot glass, combine 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar, 2 Tbsp Water, 1 Tbsp Honey, & a few shakes Cinnamon to taste. Shoot it. Feel the burn!

Warning: If you haven’t already heard, apple cider vinegar is kind of amazing. Not only does this tend to BURN, but if taken frequently, it will absolutely WRECK the enamel on your teeth. I don’t really mind the taste of ACV, but I don’t particularly love it either, so taking a tablespoon-or-two sized gulp of the stuff is an easy way for me to get this down and start feeling better. The burn makes the sore throat disappear! I do this before bed. Of course, if you’d like to sip your apple cider vinegar, PopSugar ‘s sister site FitSugar has a great recipe for an Apple Cider Vinegar Cayenne Pepper Cold & Sinus Remedy.

What are YOUR go-to cold remedies? Have you been sick this winter?

Thirsty Thursday: Ice Cream Cocktail!

Champagne, raspberries, & a little vanilla ice cream: This is the DREAM. Image via Pinterest.

When I came across this illustration in my Pinterest feed, I knew I just needed to share it on the M&M blog! After all – it’s a combination of almost all of my favorite finer things 😉 This Thirsty Thursday pick isn’t as much about drinking as it is about dining. While champagne is in the mix, our “beverage” of choice is a super yummy ice cream cocktail–a dessert fit for a princess! Simply place two layers of raspberries between small scoops of vanilla ice cream and top with your favorite champagne! You can follow the illustrated directions above if you get confused, and click through the included link in the pin for more champagne-y goodness. Pretty, boozy, and sweet–the ultimate Thursday pick-me-up!
