DIY: Safety Pin Collar Necklace

Such a fun and unique little DIY for you creative Mieuxs! It’s really simple. Use a wire or any thick, structured thread and string gold safety pins through. Double up and add another row for a thicker, fuller collar necklace! You can always spray paint safety pins whatever color you want. I haven’t tried this one myself, but the idea looks fab.

Would you try it? If you do, Instagram your pics and tag #mieuxandmieux, so we can see just how creative you are!

The Obsesh: Heart-Shaped Sunnies

20130605-223309.jpgWhat I want most in life right now is a fresh pair of heart-shaped sunnies. And the fact that my queen Lana is wearing them…ugh, I just can’t. They might be a tad bit garish, but given the proper time and place, they are as retro glam as it gets. Think about it: retro cut-offs, a 50s sweetheart bikini top, and these by the poolside?
What do you think? Fab or drab?

Interior Decor: The Artistic Abode

20130604-221906.jpgNot sure if this is a guy’s room, but does that even matter nowadays? All I know is that this room is totally me–chic & eclectic. I’d probably need warehouse/loft space to create the same look, though. There’s a funky element that’s really personal and intimate at the same time. The quilted headboard, drop-drown urban lighting, hippie throw blanket, and built-in raw wood shelves are so unique. And I’m loving the artwork as well as the deep tones. Totally fresh! What do you think?

Billed as “a dog’s guide to being a man”, Menswear Dog is the super-addictive, stylish, IT-BLOG of the moment. While typical mens fashion blogs tend not to trigger much of a reaction from this girl, when you add an adorably dapper shiba inu to the equation, I’m in for life! What can I say? I’m easily amused and love puppies.

DIY: Mason Jars

I have this really unhealthy obsession with mason jars. I know, like why would anyone really have a relationship with a jar, right? However, this is real life. And this jar is pretty freaking cool. In 1858, John Mason invented the first canning jar with screw top lid, and since then the “Mason” jar has evolved into a multipurpose, and super creative outlet. Pinterest also really loves da mason jahs because you can do virtually anything with it. What types of things, you might ask? Well…

Screen Shot 2013-05-31 at 12.38.38 AM

1. You can use it for lighting with candles for lanterns, or bulbs as unique fixtures

Screen Shot 2013-05-31 at 12.38.17 AM

2. You can store anything in them. My personal fav is using it as a brush holder with glitter rocks or marbles in the base

3. Serve drinks, or dessert, or even use it to pack a quick on-the-run salad for lunch.

4. Use it as a flower holder, table decor, or mount it on the wall

These are only a few uses for the versatile jar. It’s a perfect DIY for the summer, and you can find them for cheap at most stores, especially Hobby Lobby (don’t forget to use the weekly 40% off coupon!). If you come up with a nifty way (because apparently people still say nifty), be sure to post a pic and tag #mieuxandmieux on Instagram or Twitter. Happy DIY-ing!

[Beauty]Blogger on Blast: Anh P. Azam

I recently had the opportunity to chat with one of my favorite makeup/blogger friends, Anh P. Azam. I first saw her stuff on Instagram and Youtube and just knew she had a flair for the fabulous. Aside from being a Youtube starlette, this Houston-based fashionista is a Psych major as well as a Dental Assistant…talk about busy schedule. I was curious as to her ethnicity and found that Anh is part Vietnamese, part Pakistani. With such a unique and beautiful natural look, she has a perfect palette to experiment with! Here’s what she had to say about makeup:

When and how did you get into chronicling your makeup tips?

It was actually just recently that I stared chronicling my make up tips but I been wanting to make YouTube videos for a very long time. Last year was when I decided and gained the confidence to make a YouTube channel. The reason why I was inspired to make YouTube videos was because of watching YouTube gurus all the time for any makeup tips and DIYS. Gradually, I started to come up with my own tricks and how I liked to do my makeup, once I was comfortable doing that, I thought why not share it with my friends and, well – YouTube, haha

What is the most-asked makeup question?

It’s definitely about foundation, a lot of people ask how to apply foundation and how to apply eye liner.

What are your top 5 all time favorite products?

  1.  Bella Terra Powder
  2. Stila One Step  Correct (This is a must for me because of my redness, it is a life saver)
  3. Makeup Forever HD Foundation
  4. Beauty Blender
  5. Real Techniques Buffing Brush

Who is your make up icon?

I love way too many youtube gurus to pick just one – haha. I think they are all so talented but my all time favorites, I have to say is Makeup By Leina Baby, Michelle Phan and Nicole Guerriero

What is your favorite summer look especially with the Texas heat?

My favorite summer look in Texas heat, well, I don’t just wear one type of summer look throughout, I always switch it out because I get bored too easily. I think cute floral dresses or skirts with a cute shirt never go out of style. I love denim shorts with a cute top, dress it up with accessories and cute shoes or a maxi dress with cute earrings and nice flats.

Why is makeup important to an outfit?

Makeup is super important to an outfit, it compliments your whole look. For example, if you are going to have a fancy dress on, a red lipstick with neutral eyes completes the look.

What’s your biggest makeup pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve is when I have lipstick on and it starts to bleed.

Any 3 absolute crucial make up tips?

I am sure for every one it’s different but I personally think priming and moisturizing your face before you put your foundation is super important. It is important to not use fingers when you apply makeup, brushes is a necessity while applying makeup, I personally use the beauty blender to apply my liquid foundations and brushes for everything else. When you put lipstick on, especially dark lipstick, make sure you line your lips with a lip liner so it doesn’t bleed.

The gorgeous gal has many more tips to share on her YouTube channel, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter! She was so incredibly sweet & silly and definitely shared a lot of great makeup tips! Mieux & Mieux is all about confident young ladies who aren’t afraid to show what they love and put themselves out there. So, if you’re a strong and independent woman who don’t need no man, drop us a comment and let us know your thoughts, comments, and questions!

The Jam: Ellie Goulding & Banks

ellie-goulding1Let’s be clear. I love Ellie Goulding. There’s just nothing I would not do to see her/meet her/touch her/be her. She is my ultimate music crush and I am her biggest fan since before her U.S debut in 2011. I loved her before she was cool, okay (says the inner hipster in me). Now that we’ve established that, my woman crush forever recently dropped a new cover of Alt-J‘s “Tessellate“. We’ve seen her cover a huge range of artists such as Midlake and The Weeknd, which have all been successful attempts in my opinion. This one is no different. The Lights singer sounds so sweet and sincere on the track, I just can’t handle it. Take a listen:

Banks_FallOverFeatureThe lady musicians are really on their game lately. Banks is at it again! The “Fall Over” gal released her new single “Warm Water”. I’ve featured her before with the sultry song “Fall Over” and this one definitely is a great accompaniment:

Coveted: Zara Ankle Cuff Heels

20130526-210817.jpgLately I’ve been lusting after Zara‘s new ankle cuff shoes. I know what you’re thinking. And they do look really similar to the basic ankle strap heels, but there is a difference, I swear! The cuff is obviously a lot thicker than an average ankle strap, allowing a more impactful look. The bolder, the better right? These babies are definitely haute. Do you agree? Not so much? Are you getting tired of the whole ankle strap fad? Let us know!

Beauty: MAC Hi-Def Cyan

20130525-001021.jpgOne of my favorite ramp-worthy makeup tools is the MAC Chromagraphic pencil in Hi-Def Cyan. The vibrant blue liner is so bold and so coveted that it took me ages to finally get one. Once I did, I opted for a heavy, black wingtip on the top lid, and Hi-Def Cyan on the bottom, giving ample dimension.

Initially, I was totally digging the brilliant blue, but couldn’t figure out when to rock it. Black & white is the perfect platform to make the best of this bold liner, but be warned. The liner has a lot of pigment, so it’s really bright and bold. No need to cakeface it up and apply heavy amounts. Also, avoid a colored lip to really see the full effect of this bright liner!
What do you think? Hate it or love it?
