Ever since I heard this song in the first teaser trailer for The Bling Ring, I’ve been utterly obsessed with Sleigh Bells. The noise pop duo from Brooklyn are masters of dichotomy–their trademark sound blends harsh guitar with static feedback and soft, dreamy vocals. The resulting mix is one that seems to draw inspiration from a variety of genres, including metal, electro, hip-hop, and pop. In a word: dope. The jam in question, “Crown on the Ground”, isn’t exactly new–Pitchfork named it the 57th-best track of 2009, and since then they’ve released two albums, Treats and Reign of Terror. If their style or sound seems familiar, it’s probably because you’ve heard Sleigh Bells before: Their track “Rill Rill” was featured on an episode of Gossip Girl, “Kids” played in a promo for the American version of Skins, and “Infinity Guitars” was in Girls. Their third studio album is currently in the works and is rumored to have a potential 2013 release.
Get your Saturday Sleigh Bells fix here with my favorite of their tracks, “Crown on the Ground”.
