Fact: Cooling temperatures mean cool new denim. In terms of attention-grabbing jeans, we’ve seen it all in the past few years. Prints, pastels, acid wash. Super flares, jeggings, skinnies. If you’re a girl who likes to look ultra on trend and up-to-the-moment, there is always a denim trend to jump on. This season, the trendiest wash is a bit of a throwback. For Fall 2013, light wash, true-blue denim is going to be maj. Was the last time you put on a pair of light wash jeans in an A&F dressing room in 2006? No worries! Here are our hints for updating and reclaiming the light wash jean, just in time for fall.
Top 3 Tips for Rocking Light Wash Denim
- Saturate it. A major key to keeping classic blue denim on-trend is to pay attention to the intensity of the wash. Jeans should be totally saturated with monochromatic color throughout and free from any whiskering or fading. What we’re going for is a true blue–one that’s perfectly situated between stark indigo and almost-bleached white, probably not unlike the first pair of jeans you sported in the 90s! Selecting a shade and the appropriate saturation is absolutely key: Go too dark, and you miss the trend entirely, but go too light and you run the risk of prematurely abbreviating the longevity of your denim. Remember: When you wear light wash jeans in, variances in color tend to appear quickly!
- Ditch distressing. Aside from assuring that you don’t look like an extra from Crossroads, straying from holes, fraying, and any other distressing techniques on your blue jeans adds much-needed sophistication and polish to an otherwise casual look. Style your outfit right and you can totally rock the new light wash stunners in semi-casual situations.
- Keep it skinny. This may be the biggest and easiest to follow rule of all! When choosing jeans for fall, go for truly skinny silhouettes for maximum wearability. No 70s-inspired bell-bottoms, 00s-inspired denim micro minis, or horribly awkward bootcut anything. Skinny, however, does not have to mean skin tight! A light wash pair of slim-cut, slightly baggy jeans are the perfect option for a boyfriend-inspired look. Plan to pair your fitted jeans with fall’s chunky knits and cozy oversized scarves, then tuck them into boots as temperatures dip.
What do you think of light wash jeans? Is this a trend you’ll be revisiting? What’s your go-to wash for Fall? I’d love to know your thoughts!
