Blah blah, Instagram, we all love filters, blah. Seriously though: Instagram has been kind of a game changer! From a super-simple way to beautify your photos, to another social network in itself, IG has made it’s mark in a major way. So, when you think about it, it really only makes sense that Insta would have the ability to make a certain set of users internet famous, as is the case with Alonso Mateo. The pint-sized style icon (yes–he’s 5) is Instagram’s latest child star. He wears miniature, perfectly-styled creations from absolutely mega lines like Tom Ford, AllSaints, and Gucci, often topping his looks off with designer shades. It’s a little Chuck Bass, a little Scott Disick, and honestly a little bit frightening, but also, obviously, totally cute. If Alonso doesn’t make you want your own tiny human, fashionistas, nothing will.

While the concept of underage style icons isn’t exactly new (we’re looking at you, Suri Cruise and co!) Mateo’s rise to fame is unique in a few ways. First, neither Mateo or his parents are celebrities. He isn’t being groomed or styled for Hollywood events. There aren’t paparazzi camped outside his bedroom window. Second, instead of being “discovered” because of famous family members, in an advertisement, or in a fashion spread, the entirety of Alonso’s fame is due to Instagram. His mother, Luisa Fernanda Espinosa, posts his images on her account (@luisafere). And now, almost every photo of the kid makes it to IG’s Popular page.

But…how does a kindergartener do it? With help from his parents, obviously. While Mateo’s parents may not be celebrities, his mother works as a freelance stylist, and his father is a CEO of a private equity firm, creating the perfect storm of trend consciousness, taste, and ability to pay. Of course, the fact that Alonso picks out the majority of his own apparel, styles his own outfits for school and play dates, and then begs his parents to take his photo or does it himself with his iPad makes him seem more endearing and less bratty, I think. After all, he just wants to look cute! …A sentiment to which, in life and on Instagram, we all can relate.
