Totally Clutch: A Translucent Tutorial!

Fun fact: I always wanted–but never actually got–PVC-and-neoprene pants from Limited Too, an inflatable chair, jelly sandals, a Baby-G watch (k, I actually did get one of those), and a clear backpack so badly back in the day! I mean, what Michelle-Tanner obsessed child didn’t?! I’m a total sucker for any trend that’s remotely 90s-nostalgic, so the transparent accessory craze we’re currently experiencing makes my heart skip a beat! And, since I missed out on the transparent purse trend the first time around, I’m tempted to take full advantage in 2013. Woo, cyclical fashion movement!

I’m loving the transparent clutch thing not only because it’s a 90s throwback, but also because it seems like the perfect summer accessory. Just think: It’s trendy! Tiny! Carefree! Waterproof! If you can handle trading your purse privacy for an evening, the style payoff of is a pretty premium one. While a handful of designers and retailers are offering see-through bags aplenty, it’s always cooler if you can make one yourself. And that’s why I was so jazzed to come across this DIY guide on crafting the perfect PVC translucent clutch from Simone Heng!

Her instructions are super straight-forward and easy to follow and I love her suggestion of changing up the look of your clutch with the simple addition of a insert pouch. Genius! All you need to create a super-trendy clutch of your own is PVC, a pen, paper plates, hemp string, a sharp blade, studs, a plastic wool needle, old wrapping paper, scissors, and a clutch to use as a template.  If you don’t have an envelope clutch on hand to replicate, click over to A Pair & A Spare for a printable template. From there, it couldn’t be easier and the result couldn’t be cuter. Love it! (Of course, if you’re not the DIY type, you can always buy a transparent clutch here, here, or here! No judgement!)

Would you rock a transparent clutch? Which of the 90s trends do you hope to see make a comeback? Let us know what you’re thinking with a comment!
