The Jam: Radioactive by Lindsey Stirling & Pentatonix

I know, I know: Radioactive by Imagine Dragons has gotten so much radio and television play as of late that you’re totally sick of hearing it. I am too! It’s a legit song, but it’s on ads, trailers, playing in malls…enough is enough, right?! Buuut then there’s this: Radioactive by Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix. And (surprise surprise,) I’m actually obsessed with this cover. It sounds different enough  from the original that you won’t feel like OMGradioactiveAGAIN?! but similar enough that it’s still familiar–aka the total sweet spot of cover jams.

A little background on the artists: Pentatonix is a Texas-born, 5-person band with a super eclectic musical style– they combine genres like soul, pop, R&B, and electronic music to create a new, cohesive super sound. The group is apparently just now starting to get big, so if you’re into this song make sure to check out their other stuff so you can be the cool kid who knew about them before they were mainstream or whatever. They’re touring this summer! Lindsey Stirling, another insanely talented up-and-comer, is featured on the track–she’s the chick with the electric violin. With credits as a dancer, performance artist, YouTube star, and composer under her belt, Ms. Stirling should be on your list of artists to watch as well! But enough from me–check out the cover!

It’s almost better than the original, right? It’s okay–you can admit it 😉

What’s your verdict on Pentatonix? Are you into this cover? What are you jamming out to this Memorial Day? Leave a comment and let me know!
