Cannes Best Dressed (So Far!)

f83aeaa3d6fae909058eb56ffb574554As one of the most illustrious events in film, the Cannes Film Festival is an iconic time for fashion. Some of the greatest outfits of the year come from the Cannes Film Festival, including some of the most outlandish get ups. The film festival began originally in the 30s as part of a celebration to preview European films, but then turned into an international affair. Between May 15-26th, invite-only actors, actresses, and film-makers all flock to the southern part of France to preview and celebrate some of the best films of the year (along with the more obscure ones). While the festival is still taking place, we have already seen a slew of amazing evening wear. Here are a few that have caught my eye:

So many recurring themes! Lots of black & white, structure, unique silhouettes, neutrals, and intricate beading with art deco designs (hello Gatsby). Dior really brought it on the red carpet, as did Giambattista Valli. My top 3? Marion Cotillard in Dior, Sonam Kapoor in Anamika Khanna, and Carey Mulligan in Vionnet. Marion’s Dior gown is color-blocking genius, while Sonam’s Anamika Khanna sari is so opulent, especially with the unique embroidered jacket. And how androgynous and minimally chic does Mulligan look? There is way too much style in the city of Cannes right now, and no signs of all that fab dissipating anytime soon. Keep up with us as we cover more amazing fashion statements from the southern city.
