Heard of Hunter Bell? If you’re a fan of Fashion Star, you probably have! The pint-sized South Carolina blonde is the most recent winner of the NBC’s reality competition. While her Fashion Star win may bring Bell extra fame–and income since she’ll be selling three 3-piece collections to Macy’s, Saks, and Express to the tune of $3,000,000 as a part of her prize–the NYC-based designer is so much more than just a pretty face or reality TV darling.
Inspired by designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Rebecca Taylor, Hunter’s designs are feminine, fashion-forward, and insanely wearable–perfect for Fashion Star’s trio of buyers. Considering that she’s been working to make her fashion design dreams a reality for the past 10 years, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise! Starting her fashion career creating clothes for her Barbies as a little girl, Bell studied design at Parsons, interned for Nanette Lepore, and worked as an assistant designer at Vineyard Vines before co-creating her contemporary women’s clothing line, “Hunter Dixon“, with her roommate in 2006. Bell describes Hunter Dixon as “whimsical and flirty”, full of bold colors, prints, and unique details. The line has been featured in Elle, Bazaar, Lucky, and InStyle and has a host of celebrity fans including Sophia Bush and Marisa Miller. Their Spring 2013 offerings are perfectly on-trend with printed shorts and flirty modified dresses, while their summer collection embraces black and white, peachy pastels, and ikat-inspired prints. The high-end line is sold in 100+ boutiques across the country, as well as online at HunterDixon.com. Prices range from $150 to $348 and include a variety of blouses, dresses, jackets, and jumpsuits. Since Bell just won Fashion Star, though, you can get her super cute designs at a lower price point from Macy’s, Saks, and Express – while supplies last, anyway.
Radar worthy? I think yes. I’m a weekly Fashion Star watcher, but always felt that nothing had happened on the program that warranted a blog post. Then, my favorite-since-week-one designer won! Not only are Hunter’s designs adorable (her winning collection on the show’s finale was everything) and her personality incredibly likable, but she was also always perfectly styled and put together throughout the series. Every challenge, every runway show, and every design meeting, Hunter totally killed it. Check out What Hunter Wore for further reference. Perf, right? I want Hunter to design for me, dress me, and personally style me, so…Yeah, I’m a fan.
What do you think of Hunter Bell/Hunter Dixon? Would you wear her clothes? Do you watch Fashion Star? Any up-and-coming designers on your radar? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
