We’ve all come to love (or at least accept) that crop tops are a legitimate summer style staple. From tight to baggy and in prints or solids, the abbreviated tee is apparently here to stay. Of course, with every new season one designer or another has to put a new spin on the trend, and the newest thing in crop tops almost doesn’t qualify as a top. Enter: The bra top.

What sets a bra top apart from the crop top? A bit less fabric, and the bra top’s underwear-as-outerwear styling. Of course, not all bra tops look like bustiers–though some totally do!–there are also options that look like a slightly more polished version of a sports bra. Unless you’re piling on the layers or wearing something extremely high-waisted in an attempt to minimize the amount of skin you’re showing, bra tops aren’t for the faint of heart! Since they’re so minimal though, the style would be ideal for those hot-hot-why-am-I-wearing-any-clothes August days…And they’re a super sexy, ultra-daring 24/7 option if you’re into that kind of thing.

  1. I wouldn’t wear one because I am we’ll over 40, have had two children and my belly isn’t my best feature. However, some of the styles shown are really cute and the right person can totally pull it off.

  2. I am all about the crop top this season as well as its bra-top cousin! I prefer the sportier cuts to downplay the underwear vibe, but I think they’re super cute and fun for, as you so perfectly put it why-am-I-wearing-clothes days. I’m also a little obsessed with the plum bra-top skirt combo…and by a little I mean completely!

    • Madeline, yes!! I hadn’t seen a bra top styled with a skirt like that before writing this & I was instantly obsessed as well. It mayyy end up being the inspiration for some of my summer looks 😉
