When you think of vizors (or visors), you may think of agile tennis players, golfers, or eager American tourists. However, when high fashion thinks of vizors, they think of badass haterblockers on the runway. Designer such Louis Vuitton, Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, and Balenciaga are all taking a jab at this awkward classic, completely pushing the limits on the conventional functionality. Part hat, part sunglasses, and part headband, the vizor hit its golden period many years ago, but extends further back beyond our recollections. The word “vizor” dates back to Shakespearean times for his use of the word “vizard” meaning mask. Even before then, we see man using eyeshades for protection. A mask indeed, street style enthusiasts are definitely rocking the topless toppers at every turn, especially at music festivals such as Coachella. You can wear them with some cute cutoffs, a cardi, and high-tops for a fun casual ‘fit! I personally never understood why they couldn’t just be a hat, but that does not mean they look any less unique. I love it, just don’t know when I could actually sport one. What do you think? Fashion forward, or better left in the past?
