Here in Dallas, we tend to see a bit of everything when it comes to trends. Being mid-way definitely has its advantages because, for the most part, the bad fashions from each coast get weeded out and only the persevering trends remain (Crocs are an unfortunate exception). Still, we see a sharp contrast between the styles from New York and Los Angeles. Let’s take a look:

New York: The fashion capital boasts a heavy resume of top designers, boutiques, fresh trends, and oh so much sass. Roaming the concrete jungle, you will find darker, more sleek, and edgy palates. The weather is either really hot, or really cold, so the Big Apple tends to go big on trench coats and fur for winter wear, or then really cool summer threads (summer in the Hamptons, anyone?) Classic is the best way to describe NY fashion. They are more preppy, and have a refined taste of all that is bold. You will see funky, no doubt, but it’s still collected and cutting-edge. New York is constantly on the go, always working, and always on point. Given the polarized weather, New Yorker‘s tend to wear less make up as well, and photographers love the natural, muted lighting the city offers. Let’s not forget the street style of the city that never sleeps. N.Y. does not play.

Los Angeles: In the City of Angels, everything is bright and fabulous, like their perfect weather. Here you will see more sundresses, sunglasses, and sandals then anywhere else. Boho style is huge and people with beachy waves and ombre seem to be bikini-ready at all times. Glamourous is the best way to describe this celebrity hub, with lots of makeup, and wild hair. If N.Y. is ambitious and work-oriented, L.A. is the carefree hippie. Still, L.A. is home to some of the most outrageous fashions. They are constantly pushing the envelope and challenging the conventions of society. Hollywood brings many big names in fashion to L.A., and despite seeming so carefree, L.A. is extremely style-conscious. Who doesn’t lust after some Old Hollywood glameur?
Yes, we know not ALL the fashion from each place follows these stereotypes, just like not everyone from Texas owns cowboy boots and a pickup, but there are certain things, due to climate or attitude, that makes each locale so unique. Being central, we get the best of both like the bright, summer styles from the west, and edgy fashions from the east. Which vibe do you prefer? Let us know if you love N.Y., L.A., or both!
