With the long-awaited Great Gatsby remake premiering in three weeks, nods to the opulent art-Deco era are popping up everywhere. Perhaps the most glamorous fare of all? The Tiffany & Co Great Gatsby connection…and COLLECTION!
The iconic jewelry brand provided all of the gems used in the upcoming film, and their pearl and diamond-encrusted Great Gasby collection made its fist public debut (outside of Carey Mulligan’s May Vogue cover) at a breakfast at Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue store. In an interview with Racked, Gatsby‘s costume designer Catherine Martin noted that her collaboration with the brand was actually quite complex; Obviously, there is major symbolism tied to jewelry in the film, but also (and perhaps most notably) there was a need to find the perfect vintage-but-modern look for the pieces. She explains: “We didn’t want a nostalgic 1920s. We wanted a modern 1920s[…]That’s why Tiffany’s felt so right. Because there’s a sense of history, but also a modern company moving toward the future.”
The resulting look? Nouveau chic. Tiffany & Co managed to find the perfect sweet spot between old and new with this collaboration, creating pieces that are rooted in classic sensibility and style, but that could also be incorporated into the modern girl’s wardrobe. It’s an over-the-top, sparkling, 2013 take on the 1920s. So, so beautiful. As if we needed another reason to look forward to this movie–or covet Tiffany diamonds! The Tiffany windows at their flagship store in New York have been decked out in Gatsby-garb to celebrate, but even if you’re miles away from NYC, you can see their jazz-age inspired 2013 Blue Book Collection HERE. Art deco rings, pearled tassels, jeweled headpeices…Ahh! This is the stuff my dreams are made of!
What do you think of this collaboration, lovelies? Lusting after these Tiffany & Co baubles? Looking forward to the release of The Great Gatsby? Let us know what you’re thinking!
