The next-big-thing in hair accessories? Luxury hair ties. Mhmm! Luxe hair ties have been making the rounds on the celebrity circuit, gaining fans in Kendall Jenner, Jen Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Ana Paquin. Personally, I refer to them as pony-o’s, but to each her own. Formerly a purely utilitarian product, these hand-knotted hair ties now come in an assortment of cute colors, patterns, and fabrics, making them cute enough not only to hold back your pony, but also to be worn on your wrist as a bracelet. These pretty (and pricy!) hair ties aren’t just for fashion lovers, though! According to design pioneers Emi-Jay, their brand of ponytail holders will neither pull nor dent your hair. Genius, right? I’m a girl who wears her hair pulled back very, very infrequently outside of my own home and even I was tempted to buy these.

The story behind Emi-Jay sounds something like an episode of Shark Tank. 14-year-old girls Emily and Julianne set out to create “modern-day” hair ties that were both high-quality and high-fashion. Obviously, they succeeded! The pretty pony craze spawned an identically-constructed headband line, plus countless product imitators, including discount versions available at big-box stores and special Etsy customizations. What sets Emi-Jay apart from many of these impostors, however, is that each of their products are hand-dyed and handmade in the USA.

Of course, premium product often equals a premium price tag, and this trend is no different. The Emi-Jay brand, which is sold at Nordstrom (and occasionally at a discount on Hautelook) sells for $6.50 for a pack of three. At Twistband, you can get the same deal for fifty cents less.  Anthropologie offers brand Multitude, and sells a pack of ten ties for $16. If premium pony tail holders are too rich for your blood, you’re in luck! There are a multitude of incredibly simple DIY tutorials for these hair ties, and materials are super inexpensive. I’m loving this hair tie guide by Oh So Pretty the Diaries!

We all love a trend that blends fashion and function! These luxury hair ties would make a great little gift for any stylish lady in your life. I’d love to hear from you if you’ve purchased or have made hair accessories like these! Would you rock the pretty hair tie trend? Leave a comment below and let us know!
