I know what you’re thinking: Florals. For spring. Groundbreaking. But this season’s floral headdress trend actually kind of is. Groundbreaking, that is.
Statement headbands and jeweled headdresses have been “in” for a few years now, but this trend takes things to another level. Gone are dainty daisy chains and Blair Waldorf-esque headbands with a single oversized silk bloom; the most recent interpretation offers headpieces that are entirely engulfed in blossoms. Exploded floral crowns are statement makers, created to garner attention and top off an outfit. Drawing inspiration that’s one part Frida, one part hippie, and another Lana Del Rey, floral crowns are an ethereal and bohemian way to totally change your look without actually doing anything drastic. Forget coloring, cutting, or changing the texture of your hair! Simply top off your outfit with a statement accessory and turn those heads.
Can floral headbands be worn outside of a hipster wedding? Yes! While wearability for this particular accessory is, admittedly, a bit low–I’ve never actually seen anyone sporting a floral crown here in real life outside of a fashion show–the resulting look is too cute to miss! The key to wearing a floral crown is embracing the free spiritedness that the headpiece exemplifies. Think, on a hidden beach with a bikini or at a music festival. Don’t be surprised if you get street styled! I also like the idea of wearing one of these crowns to a ladies-only event–whether it’s girls night out or Sunday brunch, since my guess is that it is only other style-conscious women who will truly be able to appreciate the trend at this point. Guys just don’t understand! If you’re still stumped on where to wear your headband, they’re always a great piece to wear while someone photographs you for your Tumblr or Lookbook 😉
Dying to get your hands (orrr head?) on one of these crowns? You’re in luck–they’re all over the internet! Urban Outfitters has floral offerings for $135, $120, $65, and $40. Tilly’s and JcP have understated versions for $5 and $6 respectively. If you’re looking for something handmade and one-of-a-kind, Etsy has a ton of reasonably priced options. Just want to make your own?! Check out DIY guides here and here and get crafting! Personally, I’m going to see if I can cajole someone into making one of these for me because I’m terrible at DIY and don’t want to shell out the cash for the ones from UO.
What do you think of this trend, lovelies? Would you rock a floral crown? Leave a note and let us know!
