Statement Sunnies

It’s been week since daylight savings and you’ve finally adjusted to the missing hour of sleep and our extra hour of sun. SUN! It’s SPRING! I love it. Orrr at least I would love it if in Minneapolis we didn’t still have snow on the ground. Or if we weren’t due for another few inches by  Tuesday. Womp. Spring temperatures aside, one thing I can assure you is that Minnesnowta does have pretty intense sun (…sometimes). Probably because snow is reflective. So naturally, I can relate to your need to find the perfect pair of Spring or Summer sunglasses to shield those pretty eyes–no matter where you’re reading this from.

Spring/Summer 2013 is all about the statement sunnies. Peep the three biggest trends in sunglass style below!

From top to bottom, Juicy Couture, Charlotte Russe, Madewell, Karen Walker, and American Apparel.

From tinted lenses, to two-tones, to rims in vibrant hues, colored sunglasses are back in a big way for S/S 2013.  All over the runways for spring, Gucci’s collection featured sunglasses in shades of vibrant pinks, greens, yellows, and blues. If you had a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers in 2009/2010, now is time for them to make a comeback! I’m all for rocking sunnies in your favorite 50 shades, or that add a pop of color to your look, but I’m also a fan of wearing this trend in a more understated way by choosing frames in navy or smokey grey.

Cat Eyes

If you’re one of our vintage fans, you’ll flip over these retro-inspired cat eye sunnies! The great thing about the latest incarnation of this style is the variety in their designs. Whether you prefer a look that’s sexy and glamourous with oversized flare, or a more demure and only slightly-pointed pair, there is a cat eye that’s right for you. Since today’s cat eye styles can range from oval to rectangular, the frames can flatter a variety of facial shapes. Glamour girls, these are for you!

From left to right, ASOS, ZeroUV, Acne, House of Harlow, and C. Wonder.

My favorite pair of sunglasses last year (and maybe ever) were a goldtone, heart-shaped pair from Urban Outfitters. While I probably wouldn’t spring for hexagonal Fendi shades since this is the most “trendy” of the styles featured here, I do think that an inexpensive pair of shapely sunnies is a fashion “do” this season. Untraditionally-shaped sunglasses are an unexpected way to make a statement with virtually zero effort on the part of the wearer. Perfect for those days when all you want to do is put your hair in a top knot and head out in yogas and a tee. Add some angular frames and a bright red lip and you’ll look totally interesting and surprisingly put together.

What’s your sunglass style? Is it one of these? Something else entirely? Drop us a line and let us know! And of course, if you’re on the prowl for some new lenses, make sure to stop in at Mieux & Mieux! You never know what kind of shades could show up tomorrow 😉
