New York Fashion Week–Fall 2013

As the industry winds down from  February’s fashion week frenzy, we get a moment to look back at the hottest runway looks. New York Fashion Week, or the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (but we’ll just call it the #NYFW)  is the holy grail of American fashion. An icon for fashion in itself, NYFW is a major movement for designers and a projection of what types of trends will flow through consumer markets in the next season. Even though we are coming off winter, 2013 Fall will be full of interesting color combos, bold black & white, and wild new textures. Let’s take a look:

One of my favorite shows was Nanette Lepore, who made quite the statement pairing futuristic metallic and two-tone textures with darker pieces. It was the ultimate contrast.

BCBG, Bibhu Mohapatra, and Marc Jacobs made it clear, black and white is eternal.

One of my personal favorite up-and-coming designers is Prabal Gurung who recently launched a super affordable Target collection. This year on the runway, he played with solid maroons and blues, even playing around with cut-outs.

J. Crew and Marc Jacobs turned up the hue in scarlet for the fall pairing it with retro prints and warmer fabrics.

Margiela and Reem Acra set the tone for a chilly change of season. With long jackets and layering and spins on fur, it’s obvious that functionality and fashion are going to be in full effect.

Stylist-turned-designer Rachel Zoe and Reem Acra both played heavy on the leather using it in more formal pieces. For all us leather-lovers, it’s definitely here to stay.
